TCU Football Suffers Ugly Loss Against Iowa State

TCU's offense continues to spiral as the Horned Frogs look for any answers to turn this season around.

Coming off a tough loss at the hands of West Virginia, TCU looked to bounce back, but things went from bad to worse as they lost to Iowa State 27-14. TCU dropped to 3-3 and has yet to win in Ames since 2015.

TCU vs. Iowa State October 7, 2023

Iowa State defeated TCU 27-14 on Saturday night.

Things started off rough from the beginning as Chandler Morris threw an interception on the first two possessions. The Cyclones scored first with a four-yard touchdown run from Eli Sanders. The Horned Frogs would respond with an 11-play drive resulting in a touchdown pass from Morris to Savion Williams

That would be the last bit of offense the Frogs had in them until the very end as they continued to get outplayed by Iowa State. Abu Sama III ran 55 yards for a touchdown to extend the lead to 17-7, and the knockout blow came late in the third with a one-yard score from Rocco Becht to Easton Dean

On top of all that, Morris left the game in the third quarter with an apparent knee injury. No update was provided, but it didn't look good. Sophomore Josh Hoover took over and went 11-19 with 119 yards, a touchdown and an interception. He looked more comfortable as the game progressed and may be elevated to QB1 for now.

In positive news, Emani Bailey continues to build his impressive 2023 campaign where he ran for 152 yards on 21 carries. It is the fourth time this season he has eclipsed the century mark.

It is the first road loss in the Sonny Dykes era snapping a seven-game winning streak. If it wasn't abundantly clear already, this isn't last year's team. There was simply too much roster turnover for that to be possible. Simply put, it's a transition year for TCU. There are going to be a lot of growing pains this season, and at this rate, a bowl game is the best thing the Horned Frogs can hope for.

TCU will host BYU next Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
