Five Horned Frogs Represent TCU At 2023 Reece's Senior Bowl

Five senior TCU football players looking to be selected in the upcoming NFL Draft participate in this year's Reece's Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama.

One of the top NFL Draft events each season is the Reece's Senior Bowl. This week offers a critical step in each participant's draft journey, with the chance to practice for, interview and network with, and play in front of NFL scouts and coaches. Every season, half a dozen guys make a name for themselves, rise dramatically up draft boards, and– in turn– earn themselves potentially millions of dollars.

This year, five TCU Horned Frogs are on Senior Bowl rosters: QB Max Duggan, OL Steve Avila, WR Darius Davis, LB Dee Winters, and DL Dylan Horton.

The 2023 Senior Bowl can be watched on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 1:30 p.m. CT on NFL Network.

Five TCU Horned Frogs On Senior Bowl Rosters

Heisman Trophy runner-up Max Duggan headlines TCU players playing Saturday. According to The Draft Network, Duggan is the 11th-ranked QB and the 227th-ranked player overall in the upcoming draft, according to their January rankings. The other three QBs on the American team roster include Tennessee's Hendon Hooker, Houston's Clayton Tune, and Shepherd (D2) QB Tyson Bagent.

Duggan gets the opportunity to throw to teammate Derius Davis, who is one of eight receivers on the American roster. Other notable names on the team are SMU's Rashee Rice, Iowa State's Xavier Hutchinson, and Houston's Nathaniel "Tank" Dell.

Steve Avilia is TDN's 10th-ranked interior offensive lineman and will likely start on the first team alongside Florida's O'Cyrus Torrence.

Dee Winters is listed on the roster as a linebacker, despite some time at safety with the Frogs, and is one of seven linebackers on the roster. Dylan Horton is the highest-ranked Frog per TDN, earning their 66th overall rank. He's 12th among edge rushers in a very pass rusher-heavy class.

TCU's five participants in the Senior Bowl is the second-most of any school, only behind Alabama's six.

What Is The Senior Bowl?

The Senior Bowl first started in 1950, but recently rose to extreme prominence since it found its way onto national TV. It's an invitational postseason all-star game open to college seniors. They get a week of practice with NFL coaches, conduct interviews, and network with teams.

The Senior Bowl itself is a scrimmage-like game played at the end of the week. Its importance brings it level with the NFL Scouting Combine.

Last season, players like Dameon Pierce and Trevor Penning made names for themselves with fantastic Senior Bowl showings. Pierce jumped from a projected undrafted player to a fourth-round pick while Penning rose to the first round.

The Senior Bowl is played at South Alabama's Hancock Whitney Stadium in Mobile, Alabama. The event has called Mobile home since 1951.

This year, Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy and Las Vegas Raiders defensive coordinator Patrick Graham are the coaches. Getsy will coach the American team, which all five TCU Horned Frogs are a member of.
