TCU Volleyball Knocks Off No. 22 Florida State in NCAA Tournament

The Horned Frogs will advance to the second round for the second consecutive season.

TCU advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament Friday night with a win over No. 22 Florida State. The Frogs won in four sets (26-24, 16-25, 25-18 and 26-24).

The Horned Frogs had already defeated the Seminoles back in September in four sets, and they had their number again. In set one, it was tied up at nine, but Florida State jumped out to a 13-9 lead off a couple kills by Sydney Conley and attack errors from the Frogs. They even trailed 21-15, but a remarkable comeback ensued. Led by Audrey Nalls and Sarah Sylvester, TCU tied the set at 23 and would score three of the next four points to secure set one.

Set two saw pure dominance from the Seminoles. However, the Frogs' resiliency continued to shine. Led by a nine-kill effort from Jalyn Gibson, TCU took the third set finalized by an ace from Melanie Parra.

The final set was much closer. There were six lead changes. A kill by Parra put the Frogs up 20-16. However, the Seminoles tied things up at 22. They even had set point at 24-23, but a kill from Parra kept the set alive. An attack error and another kill from Parra sealed the deal clinching it for TCU.

Parra finished with 23 kills and 11 digs marking her 11th double-double of the season. Gibson had 17 kills and the veteran Nalls had 13 kills with 10 digs.

One year removed from the Frogs upsetting No. 8 Washington, they did it again knocking off the Seminoles. This win marked just the fourth in program history in the tournament. What Jason Williams has done with a program that has struggled over the years is nothing short of incredible. He is developing a winning culture and volleyball will continue to make its rounds across TCU.

TCU will look to make its first-ever Sweet 16 with a matchup against No. 9 Arkansas. The Razorbacks finished 15-3 in the SEC, and it will certainly be a difficult matchup for the Frogs in front of an Arkansas crowd. The two teams will square off tonight at 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
