TCU Volleyball Sweeps No. 20 Baylor in Thrilling Weekend

For the first time in program history, TCU has recorded back-to-back top 25 wins.

It was a fantastic weekend for TCU as they picked up a sweep over Baylor winning on Friday in four sets and Saturday in five with a reverse sweep. It's the first time since 2015 that TCU has swept the season series against the Bears.

TCU won the first set of the weekend, which saw the two teams going back and forth with eight lead changes in the early going. A kill by Jalyn Gibson gave them the lead at 12-11, and they didn't look back. A 13-5 run sealed set one for the Frogs. TCU trailed 18-15 in the second set, but the defense stepped up. Audrey Nalls came up with several critical blocks, and the overpowering Melanie Parra was too much for Baylor, landing ten kills in the second set alone to power TCU to a 26-24 win.

The Bears took the third set, and in set four, once again, the teams traded points. All knotted up at 27, a service ace from Gibson and a kill from Parra gave the Horned Frogs the win. Parra finished with 24 kills and 15 digs, while Gibson had a double-double of her own with 14 kills and 16 digs.

Saturday night required some heroics from the Horned Frogs. They trailed 2-0, but the offense came alive landing 21 kills in set three. In set four, Baylor wouldn't go away. Parra landed a pair of kills to put them up 15-13, and they led until Baylor tied things up at 24-24. However, Baylor gifted the Frogs the win with back-to-back attack errors sending the match to a fifth set.

Resiliency was the theme in set five, which saw TCU trailing 13-10. A kill by Gibson, a service ace, a kill from Parra, and another attack error put the Frogs up 14-13. Kills by Gibson and Nalls shut the door winning it 16-14 and sealing a miraculous comeback by TCU.

It was another double-double from Gibson and Parra. It was also a terrific night for Lily Nicholson. The freshman recorded 50 assists for the second time this season, adding 11 digs and a career-high two service aces.

With the wins, the Horned Frogs improved to 15-12 and 8-8 in the conference. This was a much needed weekend for Jason Williams' squad. They're still ninth in the Big 12 but just a game behind Baylor, UCF, and Kansas State. They're back on the road to take on Houston on Wednesday at 7:00 on ESPN+.
