TCU Volleyball Splits with Kansas State to Open Big 12 Play

Coming off a five-game winning streak, the Horned Frogs visited the Wildcats this past weekend with high hopes for conference play.

TCU started to pick up lots of momentum heading into Big 12 play with five straight wins. The Frogs had lost just three sets in their last five matches. Kansas State entered conference play 6-3.

It was all Frogs in the first match, winning all three sets (25-20, 25-16, 25-23). Brianna Green had a great game, landing ten blocks with five kills. The defense proved to be critical in winning this match. The first set was all knotted up at 15, but TCU went on a 5-0 and eventually closed it out.

In the second set, TCU held Kansas State to a .000 hitting percentage, with the Wildcats coughing up 11 attack errors.

Unfortunately, the Horned Frogs fell short in the second match, losing in five sets (25-23, 22-25, 19-25, 27-25 and 13-15). Despite the loss, TCU set some records. They recorded 20 blocks, which is the most by any school in the Big 12 this season and tied for sixth in program history. Melanie Parra also became the fourth player in program history to have 20+ kills and 20+ digs in a single match.

The Wildcats moved ahead 2-1, with the fourth set going back and forth. It was all tied at 25, and Audrey Nalls landed back-to-back kills to win the set for TCU. They led 13-10 in the final set, but a 5-0 run by Kansas State won them the match.

TCU stands at 8-5 and will host Texas Tech on Thursday at 6 p.m. and Friday at 6:30.
