Longhorns Tabbed for Fayetteville Regional in NCAA Tournament Prediction

With the start of the season less than two weeks away, we take a look at where the Longhorns are projected to end up come June.

With the start of college baseball season less than two weeks away the Texas Longhorns are aiming to make it back to Omaha.

If they can do so it would be their first back-to-back-to-back appearances in the College World Series since they went four straight years from 2002-2005. Getting there won't be that easy, of course, as they have to survive both a regional and super regional before they earn a trip to Omaha.

As for whether or not they host an Austin Regional again, well, that is something that we will see come June. However, College Baseball Nation released its preseason Field of 64 projections on Saturday and they don't have the Longhorns hosting.

Instead, they have the Longhorns as the No. 2 seed in the Fayetteville Regional hosted by Arkansas, who earned the No. 12 national seed in their projection. Texas and Arkansas are joined by Clemson and Southeastern Louisiana, the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds respectively.

If this is regional that comes to fruition, the Longhorns and Razorbacks kick off their seasons against each other in the College Baseball Showdown on Feb. 17.

In terms of a regional with the capability for peak toxicity between two fanbases, this is a good option. There is no love lost between Arkansas and Texas and if Texas doesn't host a regional, sending them to Fayetteville would make for some fun drama.
