'They're Still Texas': Joel Klatt 'Fed Up' With Longhorns Before Season

The Texas Longhorns kickoff their Big-12-Championship-or-bust season against Rice Sept. 2, and Fox Sports analyst Joel Klatt is on the fence about the preseason hype.

The date is Friday, Aug. 18, and the Texas Longhorns have a lot of hype surrounding them with just over two weeks until kickoff due to having the best roster. Stop me if you've heard that before.

Texas has often fallen on its face when having big expectations heading into the season. The players and coaches are blocking out the, "Is Texas back?" noise, but Fox Sports color commentator Joel Klatt has had enough of hearing about the Longhorns hype.

“I’m starting to get fed up with Texas before the season," Klatt said on "The Joel Klatt Show" Monday. "They just didn’t win tight ball games. If they can fix that, which they should, through experience, making those plays when they need to, they’ll land in the Big 12 championship game."

Klatt said he's a fan of the "dynamic" offense headlined by head coach Steve Sarkisian and quarterback Quinn Ewers with a defense that was "pretty good" last year.

Klatt said the Longhorns have a favorable schedule — aside from a road rematch against Alabama — with "tough outs" in conference play against Kansas State, TCU and Texas Tech.

While Klatt believes Texas has the best roster in the Big 12 and should win the conference and "compete" for one of the four College Football Playoff spots, there's still one caveat he's hung up on.

“They’re still Texas,” Klatt said. “By the way, I’ve been a bit of a cheerleader for Texas and that’s why I’m so upset, even before they play a game, like perpetually under achieving this team.”
