AUSTIN - The Texas Longhorns added another instant-impact transfer to their 2023 roster on Monday afternoon, gaining a commitment from Minnesota defensive tackle transfer Trill Carter.

Carter made his announcement on his personal Instagram account.

Carter was one of the top names in the transfer portal after the spring football period, and was highly pursued by multiple programs.

“I think I can really help in Austin,” Carter told Inside Texas. “Great atmosphere, great environment, and warm weather. Tired of playing in Big Ten. Too cold.”

Carter was coming off of a recent visit to Austin, and by all accounts that visit went off without a hitch.

“I loved my visit,” Carter said to Inside Texas in the interview. “It’s like a family atmosphere in Austin. The coaches and players are great. Bo Davis was real and wants me to be great.”

Last season with the Gophers, Carter started all 13 games, making 19 tackles, two tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. Carter also started 11 games as a sophomore in 2021, making 21 tackles, with five tackles for loss and a sack.

Carter should immediately figure into the rotation for the Longhorns on the interior, alongside Byron Murphy, T'Vondre Sweat, Alfred Collins and Vernon Broughton.
