At one point there was a four-way tie atop the leaderboard starring Scheffler, Morikawa, Homa and Ludvig Aberg, who began the final round in lone possession of 4th place.

But the back nine is where Scheffler separated himself from the field.

Homa's troubles began on No. 7 with a bogey, then continued with a double bogey on No. 12 and a bogey on No. 17. Two birdies scattered in at No. 8 and No. 10 weren't enough to keep him in contention as he finished tied for third at 4-under for the tournament.

Morikawa began having issues with a double bogey on No. 9 and he followed that with another double bogey on No. 11. Birdies at Nos. 13 and 15 helped him finish tied with Homa and Tommy Fleetwood for third place at 4-under.

But the biggest threat to Scheffler on Sunday was former Texas Tech Red Raider Ludvig Aberg, who almost matched Scheffler's steady hand on the final nine. But a double bogey on the difficult par-4 No. 11 practically ended his run to Scheffler. Aberg finished the day with a 3-under 69 and at 7-under for the week.

Where others were faltering, Scheffler was excelling. The Texas Ex had just three bogeys on the day and just one on the back nine where his peers were scoring double bogeys. Scheffler scored four birdies and four pars to go along with his single bogey to finish the day at 4-under and at 11-under for the week - and a four-shot victory.

Scheffler joins other notable two-time champions, Byron Nelson, Ben Hogan, Tom Watson, Seve Ballesteros, Bernhard Langer, Ben Crenshaw, Jose Maria Olazabel and Bubba Watson.
