In this story:
With Eric Dailey Jr. expected to return, UCLA now has a roster that looks much more attractive on paper.

Implications

With Dailey Jr. back in Westwood, it means two things. First, UCLA will have a very strong option at small forward next season. Second, the Bruins now have a roster that — even before additional transfer portal additions — could realistically make some noise next season. However, UCLA still has work to do in the portal.
What makes Eric Dailey Jr. so impactful goes beyond his production. His leadership traits have also been widely praised. Mick Cronin has gone on record commending Dailey Jr. for holding teammates accountable while also being one of the hardest-working players in practice. Getting Dailey Jr. back is a major boost to UCLA’s locker room culture.

Another reason this move is so impactful is how it affects UCLA’s standing in the transfer portal. As mentioned earlier, Trent Perry has not yet announced his decision regarding next season. However, with Dailey Jr. returning, it could help encourage Perry to stay as well.
Having a solid team on paper allows UCLA to be more aggressive in the transfer portal. If a transfer is evaluating potential destinations and sees that UCLA already has a strong core in place — and may only be a few pieces away from being highly competitive — it could influence that player’s decision to join the Bruins.
The Skill Set UCLA Retains

Dailey Jr.’s skill set is extremely versatile. He is effective in transition and excels at creating one-on-one scoring opportunities in the post, often leading to quick baskets. It is also important to note that Dailey Jr. was UCLA’s leading rebounder last season, averaging 5.8 rebounds per game.
His offensive game still has room to grow, but the foundation is clearly there for him to become an even more productive player next season. If he becomes more aggressive attacking the rim, it could elevate his game even further — something that often separates great small forwards in this conference.

The bottom line is that UCLA now has a legitimate standout at the small forward position. Dailey Jr.’s ability to both create opportunities for himself and complement his teammates makes him a valuable player to build around.
For UCLA, this could be the first major step toward a very successful offseason.
