UCLA Football: College Football Expert Suggests Redshirt Junior Could Be Favored for QB1 Spot

Freshman QB Dante Moore appears to have the edge, according to many pundits and experts, as he has a high ceiling and could be the QB for the next handful of seasons.

However, nothing is set in stone, and anyone who claims they've got the answer might just be blowing smoke. Still, there's no crime in guessing or making a case for one over the other, and that's what college football expert Josh Pate does in his latest episode of 'Late Kick Live.'

Pate gives his take on the QB battle and where Garbers fits.

"Ethan Garbers has been there for a while. He transferred from Washington back in 2021, so he's been there; he's a redshirt junior. He's been in Chip Kelly's system, and sort of the default thinking has been Dante Moore is the five-star true freshman. Maybe he wins the job; if he doesn't, you could fall back on Garbers and Colin Schlee.

You can always tell who's running with the ones with Chip Kelly by who's wearing the helmet cam because they've got a quarterback wearing a helmet at practice. Ethan Garbers is wearing the helmet cam. so Garbers, we believe, would start for them today.

I don't think this is decided, it's far from over."

Kelly spoke to the media earlier this week and said the helmet cam means nothing. However, if we go off history, that means they are the QB1 at the moment.

Pate discussed the Moore rumors about his unhappiness at UCLA and if that could play a factor. Moore shit down those rumors quickly and has moved past that.

Nonetheless, the decision on who could be QB1 could all change in the coming weeks. I'm sure Kelly will continue not to give any clues.
