UCLA Football: Writer Predicts Ethan Garbers Will Stay Starter After Stanford Dominance

In this story:
Quarterback Ethan Garbers was announced as the starting quarterback for the UCLA Bruins shortly before their game against Stanford on Saturday, as the team benched freshman Dante Moore. Considering how Moore performed in recent weeks, it wasn't a major surprise, but now UCLA has some decisions to make going forward.
Garbers led the Bruins to a big win over Stanford, and he looked good doing so. One writer believes that Garbers did enough to win back the starting job from Moore.
“He got the start against Stanford. He starred. He just might have won the job back. Rewarding his coach’s faith with the kind of steady and efficient quarterback play that UCLA had been missing in recent weeks, Garbers thrived in his midseason do-over.”
Per Ben Bolch of The LA Times
If Garbers is the guy moving forward for the Bruins, they can feel confident in him. He has learned from his mistakes and seems ready to take the challenge of being the starter for this team.
The Bruins know that they need to win out if they want to win anything this season, and maybe having a more experienced player under center is the correct move. Garbers showed on Saturday that he could rise to the challenge, and UCLA now feels confident looking ahead.
“Really pleased with Ethan today,” Kelly said, “but I don’t think anything that Ethan did surprised any of us on our staff or any of our players because we see that on a daily basis from Ethan.”

Head coach Chip Kelly gave some thought to the Bruins quarterback situation going forward, and like always, he was cryptic as ever.
“We’ll see who’s healthy and available at the end of every week,” Kelly said, “like we do every week.”

Whether it is Garbers or Moore next week against Colorado, the Bruins believe in their team. They have two losses, but there is plenty of season left to go. UCLA has some choices to make, but Garbers may have already made it for them.
