If you're an elite basketball prospect from the Midwest, UCLA basketball head coach Mick Cronin probably will be intrigued.

If you can defend and demonstrate toughness on the floor, you'll likely be targeted by the UCLA basketball program as a potential fit.

One 2025 5-star prospect, Trey McKenney, certainly fits the bill here. A 6-foot-4 guard/forward out of Flint, Michigan, McKenney has suitors from all over the country. According to 24/7 High School Hoops, UCLA is among the schools pursuing McKenney the most:

Stylistically, this is a no-brainer recruit as it pertains to UCLA. McKenney is a bucket-getter who competes at an extremely high level. Built similarly to current USC guard Isaiah Collier, the broad-shouldered McKenney can get anywhere he wants on the floor.

Offensively, he can shoot it from three and in the midrange. Defensively, he relishes the chance to lock up fellow guards with a long wingspan, natural strength, and on-ball pressure.

Per 24/7 High School Hoops, McKenney has taken official visits to TCU, Georgetown, and Rutgers. There's no word on whether he will be visiting UCLA officially.

The Bruins have built a program under Cronin with toughness and strong guard play. Cronin allows his guards/wings to create for themselves using an NBA-style scheme.

Based on McKenney's skill set and profile, he appears to be a very nice fit for the Bruins. It'll be interesting to see whether he does indeed take a trip to Westwood.

At this point, UCLA does not have a commitment in the 2025 class. ESPN ranks McKenney as the No. 13 player in the class of 2025, while 247Sports ranks him at No. 18.
