USC Football: Former NFL QB Weighs in on Bears' Likely Decision to Draft Caleb Williams

The USC Trojans will be front and center in the upcoming NFL Draft next week, with star quarterback Caleb Williams being expected to be taken first overall. He will be replacing former Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields, who was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers to make room for the team to draft Williams.

Despite Fields' improvement through his first few seasons in the NFL, the Bears front office believes that WIlliams can take them to new heights. As does former NFL quarterback Phil Simms, who weighed in on the debate between Williams and Fields.

“Just not a good processor…I watch the tape and there are people wide open…Caleb Williams clearly a better passer of the football.”

Fields hadn't progressed to where the Bears quite wanted him to at this point, opening the door for a move. WIlliams has all the skills to be a franchise quarterback and Chicago wants to push their chips in on him. He is one of the better prospects to come out of college in a long time so it makes sense why the Bears are taking a risk with him.

Williams was special in college, winning the Heisman Trophy in 2022 with the Trojans. He is expected to turn things around in Chicago, even with all the pressure of being the first overall selection.
