USC Trojans Predicted to Land Elite Quarterback Recruit

Looks like the USC Trojans have done enough to convince this fast rising prospect to choose them, per one insider.

The USC Trojans fell into a quiet state on the recruiting trail for the summer. Four-star safety from Damien High in La Verne, Ca., Gavin Williams represents USC's last blue chip recruit addition.

USC appeared to have placed a bow on its 2027 class with the Williams decision. Although there was the report that the Trojans tried pursuing four-star tackle Isaiah Bertola over the summer.

Now USC is reportedly ready to deliver a new head-turning recruiting move for the 2028 class per one national insider on Aug. 10.

USC Trojans Offer Quarterback Recruit

National recruiting insider for On3 Steve Wiltfong believes a recent USC recruiting target will shut his recruitment down soon, and this one puts USC in a position where it has an eventual successor at quarterback if the Trojans seal the deal.

Wiltfong reports that three-star Texas quarterback Trey Wright out of Lone Star High in Frisco is USC bound soon.

"He was the first 2028 prospect Lincoln Riley extended a scholarship to at the position and he is clearly USC’s top target at the position. I don’t anticipate any other quarterback offers going out in the near future. I actually think it would be a better chance to see Wright jump on the opportunity," Wiltfong wrote in his report.

Wright enters the recruiting world posting some zany numbers for a high school prospect. He tallied 4,062 passing yards and totaled 5,800 combined yards. He went on to become a MaxPreps All-American by starring in the Dallas region, one of the nation's top recruiting hotbeds.

He doesn't even look like a prospect who passes the proverbial eyeball test when one scrutinizes a quarterback. Wright enters each game carrying a 5-11, 180-pound frame.

But Riley has thrived with smaller quarterbacks. Baker Mayfield rose as one during the coach's Oklahoma run. Mayfield stood at under 6-feet during his illustrious college football career.

Wright, though, is drawing comparisons to another high-profile Heisman Trophy winner turned NFL starting quarterback under Riley: Kyler Murray, who won his Heisman after replacing Mayfield in Norman. Fans and recruiting analysts have seen flashes of Murray's past prep potential in Wright.

Biggest Threat to USC for Trey Wright

Wright landed two offers on the day USC came through. Colorado out of the Big 12 entered his picture too on Aug. 8.

He's got other high-caliber offers ranging from USC's Big Ten rival Oregon, UCLA, Michigan, plus local suitors TCU and SMU.

Wright rises as a massive boost for USC's 2028 class if indeed he chooses the Trojans. He'll become a future "Murray" or even bring some Caleb Williams-like tendencies especially with off-script plays to USC if Los Angeles becomes his next home.

Can Riley and the Trojans land their guy at quarterback for the future? With freshman quarterback Jonas Williams potentially set to take over after current USC starter Jayden Maiava's eligibility expires, Wright could fit into the succession plan.
