West Virginia Wide Receiver Dom Collins is Entering the Transfer Portal

The in-state product will be moving on from WVU.

West Virginia head coach Rich Rodriguez was very open about his concerns with the wide receiver room during spring ball, noting they had a lack of bodies to fill out a quality two and three-deep. Attrition was always going to take place in that room, but seeing a young player with elite speed depart can't be easy.

On Wednesday, redshirt freshman wide receiver and Princeton, West Virginia native Dom Collins announced that he will be entering the transfer portal. As a senior in high school, Collins logged 83 receptions for 1,897 yards and 27 touchdowns. WVU was the only Division I school to extend an offer. Several in-state Division II programs, such as Fairmont State, Glenville, Shepherd, University of Charleston, and West Virginia State were in the mix before the Mountaineers came along.

Collins will have all four years of eligibility remaining.

Evaluation from signing day

Somewhat of a magician in tight spaces, a slippery tackle. More quick than fast, but has good burst that allows him to get separation and runaway from defenders. Can offer a vertical threat versus zone coverage, but not likely one that will win consistently in man coverage over bigger, more physical corners. Has some punt return experience which will undoubtedly be his best chance to see the field early in his career. Will need time adding on weight to be in the mix on the offensive side of the ball.
