Wisconsin Football Continues In-State Recruiting Dominance With Two More Commitments

Wisconsin football is on an absolute tear with in-state recruiting to kick off its 2027 class.

Wednesday evening, two more prospects from the Dairy State committed to the Badgers: Sussex (Hamilton) twins Hunter and Reece Mallinger.

Hunter is the consensus No. 4 prospect in Wisconsin, according to both 247Sports and On3, while Reece is the consensus No. 10 prospect in the state. Both are ranked as three-star recruits.

The pair of pledges gives Wisconsin its sixth and seventh commitments in the 2027 cycle, a class that currently exclusively includes players from the Badger State.

Both Hunter and Reece are 6-foot-6 and listed around 285/290 pounds. That height generally indicates a future tackle in the Big Ten, but both players have experience playing tackle and guard in high school.

Reece listed 14 offers from a litany of Power Four programs including Missouri, Iowa State, North Carolina, Kansas, and others. Hunter was a little more heavily recruited with 18 offers, and while many programs offered both players simultaneously, Hunter also received exclusive offers from Duke, Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky.

Badgers Continue to Change Narrative Around In-State Recruiting

Wisconsin now has commitments from seven of the state's top 10 prospects in the class of 2027. That's a significant development for the Badgers, as this is already easily the most players head coach Luke Fickell has landed from inside the state in his tenure.

The Mallinger twins' commitment gives Wisconsin its third and fourth offensive linemen in the recruiting cycle, joining three-star Ethan McIntosh from Verona and four-star Cole Reiter from Germantown. New offensive line coach Eric Mateos, who's been on the job for less than four months, has done a tremendous job maintaining and building relationships while recruiting his position in the Badgers' backyard.

In-state tailback Kingston Allen (Green Bay), a consensus four-star prospect, is the next domino to watch with in-state recruiting.
