Update: Schembechler has resigned his post at Michigan after the emergence of controversial social media activity. More information here.

The son of Michigan football coaching legend Bo Schembechler is joining the Wolverines' staff ahead of the 2023 season as Glenn "Shemy" Schembechler comes aboard to assistant the team's burgeoning recruiting efforts.

Schembechler will serve as Michigan's assistant director of football recruiting.

"I'm beyond honored to return home," Schembechler said on Twitter." Go Blue always and forever!"

Shemy has a track record of identifying football prospects, serving as the assistant recruiting coordinator for the Wolverines from 1993 to 1994.

From there, he served as a scout in the National Football League, working with the Kansas City Chiefs and Chicago Bears for two years each, and for the Washington Redskins for a decade.

Shemy's father needs no introduction to Michigan football fans: Bo remains for most the face of the program, leading the Wolverines from 1969 to 1990, earning instant fame in his first season after leading an upset over then-No. 1 and defending national champion Ohio State in his first appearance in The Game.

Schembechler won 13 Big Ten football championships during his time at Michigan and finished with a career record of 234-65-8, entering the College Football Hall of Fame in 1993 before his death in 2006.

Michigan comes in at No. 2 on the College Football HQ Recruiting Rankings when looking ahead to the 2024 cycle and enters the 2023 season as the reigning back-to-back Big Ten champions and College Football Playoff semifinalists.
