Major SEC Program Rises to No. 1 in 2027 College Football Recruiting Rankings

In this story:
Texas A&M currently holds the No. 1 spot in the Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings for the 2027 cycle. This ranking follows the commitment of five-star EDGE Zyron Forstall, who chose the program over Alabama, USC, Notre Dame, and Miami. Forstall is the No. 16 overall prospect and the No. 2 edge rusher in his class.
The Aggies now have 11 total commitments. This collection moved Texas A&M past Oklahoma for the top position in the national team rankings. Head coach Mike Elko is building a class that currently mirrors the volume of the 2022 cycle, but will hopefully avoid that class's pitfalls.
How Texas A&M regained the No. 1 spot in recruiting rankings
Forstall is a 6-foot-4, 235-pound prospect from IMG Academy who previously played in New Orleans. He met with the coaching staff during a multi-day spring visit to review defensive schemes before announcing his pledge.
"I feel like I fit perfectly in Texas A&M’s defense," Forstall said. "We went over a few defensive schemes that I really feel like I can play in that defense and dominate. It’s an SEC school, and it’s one of my dreams to play in the SEC."
The current commitment list is focused on the defensive side of the ball, accounting for seven of the 11 total pledges.
Five-star safety Kamarui Dorsey is the highest-rated recruit in the group at No. 19 overall. The secondary also includes four-star cornerback Raylaun Henry, the No. 29 recruit, and four-star safety JayQuan Snell, the No. 42 recruit. San Antonio Brandeis cornerback Hakim Frampton joined the group in September.

Texas A&M’s 11 commitments carry a 91% blue-chip ratio, which is the highest in the SEC. The staff has secured top talent from California, Georgia, Maryland, and Florida. By landing Forstall, the Aggies beat out home-state options for the prospect, including LSU and Florida State.
The staff is signing players with specific physical traits, such as 6-foot-3 Houston Cy Falls edge rusher Kaden McCarty. The program used spring visits to move ahead of Oklahoma and Ohio State in the national standings. These rankings will fluctuate as other programs add commitments through the winter signing period.
The Aggies will hold their annual Maroon & White spring game on Saturday, April 18, at 2 p.m. ET at Kyle Field.
