Oregon Ducks football defensive back Daylen Austin was arrested on Monday in connection to a fatal hit-and-run incident, the Eugene (Ore.) Police Department said.

"This is a complex investigation and EPD is still gathering information to be submitted to the Lane County District Attorney''s Office for a final charging decision," the police said in a statement.

Police stated that a 46-year-old man was killed around 9:10 p.m. on Monday night when he was hit around two miles from the University of Oregon campus. No other details were given.

"We are aware of the incident and are awaiting additional information," a spokesman for Oregon said in a statement.

Online records indicated that Austin was still in Lane County Jail as of Wednesday.

Austin played in three games for Oregon a year ago as a true freshman, logging 30 snaps with the defense.

He was a consensus four-star recruit ranked as the No. 10 cornerback and the No. 109 overall prospect in the 2023 football class, according to a consensus of the national recruiting services.
