The Minnesota Twins are yet again holding their breath on the health of star Byron Buxton.

The lineup key was removed on Saturday night against the Los Angeles Angels with right leg tightness.

The following update comes from the Yahoo! Sports Fantasy Baseball portal:

Buxton left Saturday's game against the Angels with right calf tightness, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Advice: Buxton was removed for Edouard Julien in the sixth inning, with Julien remaining in the game in the designated hitter spot. At this point, Buxton should be considered day-to-day, but there should be an update on his status before Sunday's series finale against the Angels.

For what it's worth, there is a slight discrepancy on the injury report. Helfand says "calf," while Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com says it was soreness around the knee.

Either way, let's hope that Buxton is just "day-to-day" because the team can ill-afford to lose him. It would also be cruel if Buxton were hurt because the team has tried so hard to keep him healthy, reducing him to only designated hitter work in 2023.

Injuries have been part of Buxton's story for years now as he played just 28 games in 2018, 87 in 2019, 39 in the COVID 2020 season, 61 in 2021 and 92 in 2022. He's only played more than 100 games once in his career (2017 - 140).

This season, Buxton is hitting .235 with nine home runs. Lifetime, he's a .243 hitter with 107 homers.

He was named an All-Star in 2022 and has won a Gold Glove.

Currently, the Twins are 25-21 and in first place in the American League Central.
