Chicago White Sox Get Good Injury Update on Eloy Jimenez

The Chicago White Sox are one of the biggest disappointments in baseball this year at 18-29, but because they play in the American League Central, they are only 7.0 games out of first place.

As they seek to get back into the race, the team got good news on Saturday regarding outfielder Eloy Jimenez.

Jimenez has been on the injured list since May 7 after undergoing an emergency appendectomy and was expected to miss 4-6 weeks.

But manager Pedro Grifol told reporters on Saturday that he could return to the lineup next week.

White Sox manager Pedro Grifol said Saturday that Eloy Jiménez (abdomen) is "ahead of schedule" in his recovery from an appendectomy procedure.

Advice: Jiménez told reporters earlier this week that he's targeting next weekend to return to Chicago's lineup, just a dew weeks after undergoing an appendectomy, so it's a positive sign to see the club backing up his optimistic goal. It certainly sounds possible that he'll be ready to return sometime later next week, especially if he's already progressed to swinging a bat without any issues.

Jimenez is off to a productive start for the White Sox, hitting .258 with four home runs and 15 RBI. He has an OPS of .744.

For his career, he's a .274 hitter with 75 home runs and 226 RBI. He also represented the Dominican Republic in this year's World Baseball Classic.

The White Sox beat the Royals, 5-1, on Saturday afternoon.
