The Chicago White Sox will be without star outfielder Eloy Jimenez after he underwent a surgical procedure.

He's expected to miss 4-6 weeks after getting an appendectomy.

From the RotoWire fantasy baseball page:

Eloy Jiménez underwent an appendectomy on Saturday evening and is expected to be released from the hospital later tonight.

Advice: The White Sox said it'd a recovery of 4-6 weeks for Jiménez, though players have made it back in three weeks in the past. With Jake Burger on the IL, the White Sox are going to be hurting for a DH in Jiménez's absence. A Clint Frazier callup could be the answer. Alternatively, perhaps the White Sox could sign Gary Sánchez and have him and Yasmani Grandal share time between catcher and DH.

We haven't seen corresponding roster moves so that is all speculation but the loss of Jimenez is a big one for a White Sox team that is trying to overcome a terrible start in order to stay in the American League Central race.

The team is currently 11-23 and 8.0 games back of the first-place Twins.

Jimenez is off to a productive start for the White Sox, hitting .258 with four home runs and 15 RBI. He has an OPS of .744.

For his career, he's a .274 hitter with 75 home runs and 226 RBI. He also represented the Dominican Republic in this year's World Baseball Classic.

The White Sox are already dealing with an injury to Jake Burger but are expected to get back Yoan Moncada soon. He's currently rehabbing at Triple-A.

The White Sox will play the Reds today at 4:10 p.m. ET.
