Miami Marlins Lose Massive Pieces as Playoff Push Hits Fever Pitch

In this story:
The Miami Marlins have won five straight games to move to 71-67.
They are now just 0.5 games back of the third wild card spot in the National League, but as they chase a playoff berth, they'll have to do so without two major contributors. Both Sandy Alcantara and Jorge Soler have been placed on the injured list.
Per Bob Nightengale of USA Today:
Tough news: The Miami #Marlins, just 1/2-game behind Cincinnati for the final wild-card berth, will now be without ace Sandy Alcantara. They are placing him on the 15-day IL with a right forearm flexor strain.

And on Soler, from Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald:
Jorge Soler to 10-day IL with right oblique strain. Geoff Hartlieb DFA’d. Dane Myers and Edward Cabrera recalled. Devin Smeltzer contract selected. #Marlins

Those are devastating injuries for the Fish as they wipe out two of the best players on the roster. In Alcantara's case, it's a scary injury because any time you hear forearm issues, you think the worst.
The 27-year-old won the NL Cy Young award in 2022 but hasn't been the same this year. He's still got a respectable 4.14 ERA but has gone just 7-12. He's only struck out 151 batters in 184.2 innings.
As for Soler, the 31-year-old is hitting .240 with 35 home runs and 71 RBI. He's posted a .329 on-base percentage and an .842 OPS.
He's a two-time World Series champion, having won with the Cubs (2016) and Braves (2021). He was named the World Series MVP in 2021.
