The Milwaukee Brewers have placed right-handed relief pitcher Trevor Megill on the 7-day concussion list, the team announced Wednesday.

The move was made retroactive to March 31. Right-hander JB Bukauskas was recalled from Triple-A Nashville to round out the big league roster in Megill's absence.

Milwaukee shleving Megill was a surprise development, considering he did not leave his last appearance on March 30 with an injury. Instead, as the Milwaukee Journal Sentinal's Todd Rosiak reports, Megill recently contracted food poisoning, felt faint and hit his head on the ground.

Megill had just started his second season with the Brewers. In 2023, the righty enjoyed a career year by going 1-0 with a 3.63 ERA, 1.356 WHIP, 13.5 strikeouts per nine innings and a 0.4 WAR across 31 outings.

Through two appearances in 2024, Megill had tossed 2.0 scoreless innings with three strikeouts, a walk and a hold. The 6-foot-8, 255-pound reliever was expected to get some run as the Brewers' part-time closer with All-Star Devin Williams out for the next few months, but now his role moving forward remains to be seen.

Before he arrived in Milwaukee, Megill spent 2021 with the Chicago Cubs and 2022 with the Minnesota Twins. The 30-year-old is 6-5 with a 5.13 ERA, 1.528 WHIP, 11.4 strikeouts per nine innings and a -1.2 WAR in his big league career.

Megill's younger brother, New York Mets starting pitcher Tylor Megill, was placed on the 15-day injured list with a right shoulder strain on Monday. As a result, neither Megill brother will be able to take the mound for at least the next week – or two, in Tylor's case.
