After being signed to a two-year contract this offseason, Jose Quintana is set to make his season debut for the New York Mets.

The veteran left-hander has been activated off the injured list and looks set to make his first start next week.

The following update comes from the Rotowire fantasy baseball portal:

Quintana (ribs) was activated from the 60-day injured list Friday, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

ANALYSIS
Quintana reached the 30-day limit on his rehab assignment, so the move was a formality. While the Mets have not yet announced when the left-hander will make his debut for them, it's expected to come early next week against the White Sox. The veteran left-hander has been out all season following surgery in March on his rib cage. Quintana held a 4.60 ERA and 16:8 K:BB over 15.2 innings covering five rehab appearances.

This will be the 12th season in the majors for Quintana, who has played with the White Sox, Cubs, Angels, Giants, Pirates and Cardinals.

He owns a lifetime 89-87 record and a 3.75 ERA.

A workhorse when healthy, he pitched more than 200 innings in four straight seasons from 2013-2016.

He'll be joining a Mets team that is looking to get back into the playoff race, so perhaps he can provide a jolt.

One of the biggest disappointments in all of baseball, the Mets are currently 42-48 and in fourth place in the National League East.

They do have some hope in the wild card though and currently trail in that race by seven games.
