In a cruel twist from the Baseball Gods, the only watchable thing about the Oakland Athletics this year is now dealing with an injury.

Rookie right-hander Mason Miller is experiencing elbow discomfort and is flying back to the Bay Area to get it looked at.

Martin Gallegos of MLB.com Tweeted this on Monday:

"Mason Miller felt tightness in his right elbow following his start yesterday. He is flying back to the Bay Area to be evaluated. A's manager Mark Kotsay said it looks to be more of a flexor muscle issue than anything else: "We're hoping for the best," Kotsay said."

Hopefully the best is achieved, but any time you hear a manager talking in terms of "hope," you get nervous.

Miller has been a positive revelation for the A's this season. He made his debut in mid-April and has pitched to a 3.38 ERA in 21.1 innings. He has struck out 22 batters in those 21.1 innings and recently threw seven no-hit innings against the Seattle Mariners.

He went six innings and allowed just one run against the Kansas City Royals on Sunday. He also had five strikeouts.

He was a third-round pick of the Athletics back in the 2021 draft out of Gardner-Webb.

He's been among the lone bright spots for the Athletics this season. The A's have the fewest wins in baseball (8) entering play on Monday, may possibly relocate to Las Vegas in the next few years, and recently suspended their broadcaster for an inappropriate comment.

The A's open up a series in New York against the Yankees on Monday.
