In this story:

After saying on Sunday that they don't think that starting pitcher Kevin Gausman will require a trip to the injured list, the Toronto Blue Jays have given more clarity with regards to a timeline for him to return to the mound.

The following update comes from the Rotowire fantasy baseball portal:

Gausman (side) won't start during the Blue Jays' upcoming series against the Padres, Mitch Bannon of SI.com reports.

ANALYSIS
The Blue Jays recently said that Gausman isn't expected to require a trip to the injured list as he deals with left side discomfort, but manager John Schneider said Sunday that he wants to give the right-hander "a little bit of extra rest." The earliest Gausman may take the mound would be Friday in Seattle, but a firm date for his next start hasn't yet been revealed.

Gausman is hugely important to the Blue Jays playoff chances this season, as he's been one of the top pitchers in the American League.

He's been dominant this season, going 7-5 with a 3.03 ERA. He's also struck out 153 batters, which is the most in the American League.

The 32-year-old is in his 11th year in the big leagues with the Orioles, Braves, Reds, Giants and Blue Jays.

Lifetime, he owns a 83-87 record but he's had winning records each of the last two seasons.

Gausman was scratched from his Saturday start with that discomfort, which is a rarity for him. He's made 31 or more starts in each of the last two seasons.

The Blue Jays are 53-41 and currently own the second spot in the American League wild card picture.
