The New York Yankees have announced that slugger Giancarlo Stanton will begin a rehab assignment on Tuesday at Double-A Somerset.

He's been out since mid-April with a left hamstring strain.

Somerset put out the information on Twitter:

This is good news for a Yankees team that is currently 32-23 and in third place in the American League East.

The 33-year-old Stanton is a five-time All-Star, a two-time Silver Slugger, a home run derby champion and he won the National League MVP in 2017 with the Marlins.

For his career, he's a .264 hitter with 382 home runs. He pairs with Aaron Judge to make one of the most dangerous home run duos in the entire sport.

For this season, he's out to a .269 start with four home runs.

The Yankees are in Seattle for a three-game series against the Mariners beginning Monday. It's unknown how many rehab games that Stanton will need but the Yahoo! Sports fantasy baseball portal relayed this information:

Advice: Stanton was able to take on-field batting practice against a pitching machine Friday, and the veteran slugger continues to make progress from the hamstring strain that has sidelined him since the middle of April. Assuming Stanton gets the green light to begin the rehab assignment Tuesday, Boone said that the 33-year-old might be cleared to return from the 10-day injured list ahead of next weekend's series with the Dodgers.
