The report indicates that the White Sox are only willing to trade rental players if they become sellers. It should be noted that because of the mediocrity of the American League Central, the Sox are only 5.5 games out first place in the division. They may not end up selling at all and could even try to buy if they think they have a shot at the division by the time July rolls around.
If the Sox do decide to sell, they have several players who could attract attention. Dylan Cease and Tim Anderson would be the most attractive pieces, along with Luis Robert and Eloy Jimenez, but they are not rental pieces so the Sox appear unlikely to send them off.
Lucas Giolito, Mike Clevinger, Yasmani Grandal, Elvis Andrus, Reynaldo López and Keynan Middleton all could attract interest from contending clubs.
Giolito is 5-4 with a 3.54 ERA this year and has truck out 84 batters over 81.1 innings. He made the All-Star team in 2019.
Grandal is hitting .271 this year with five homers and 18 RBI.
Clevinger is 3-4 with a 3.88 ERA but is likely headed for the injured list soon.
The White Sox are 30-40 right now and begin a series with the Seattle Mariners on Friday. Michael Kopech pitches against Bryan Woo. First pitch is 10:10 p.m. ET.
