In this story:

The Chicago White Sox were active sellers at the trade deadline.

They dealt away Lucas Giolito, Reynaldo Lopez, Lance Lynn, Joe Kelly and Jake Burger in various deals, acquiring several exciting young prospects.

In addition, right as the deadline closed, they traded reliever Keynan Middleton to the Yankees and acquired former top prospect Luis Patino for cash considerations from the Tampa Bay Rays.

The 29-year-old Middleton is 2-2 with a 3.96 ERA this season. He's in his seventh year in the big leagues with the Angels, Mariners, Diamondbacks, White Sox and now Yankees.

For him, the White Sox received pitching prospect Juan Carela in the deal. MLB Pipeline had him as the 29th-best prospect in the Yankees organization.

With regards to Patino, this ends a frustrating tenure for him Tampa and gives him a fresh start.

The following comes from the Rotowire fantasy baseball portal:

Patino was traded from the Rays to the White Sox on Tuesday in exchange for cash, James Fegan of the Chicago Sun Times reports.

ANALYSIS
Patino was once a highly-prized pitching prospect, but he didn't emerge as an effective starter or reliever at the highest level. The 23-year-old righty has a career 5.23 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 111 strikeouts in 118.2 MLB innings. Patino has a 6.75 ERA this season at Triple-A while working mostly as a reliever, but since few teams have more rotation spots up for grabs in the short term and long term than the White Sox, he could continue his development as a starter in his new organization. The fact that the Rays were willing to give up Patino for cash doesn't inspire much confidence in his outlook moving forward, however. He'll report to Triple-A Charlotte to begin his tenure in the White Sox organization, per Scott Merkin of MLB.com.

The White Sox are 43-65 and will take on the Texas Rangers on Wednesday night at 8:05 p.m. ET.
