Cincinnati Reds Designate Wil Myers For Assignment

In this story:
The Cincinnati Reds have won nine straight games, largely thanks to the young players in the organization.
As the team moves in that direction, they have designated veteran Wil Myers for assignment. In order to make the move, they activated him from the injured list. He had been on the injured list battling kidney stones.
Per Charlie Goldsmith of the Cincinnati Enquirer:
The Reds have DFAd Wil Myers.
He was their big free agent addition, and the idea was for him to produce as a power hitter until a trade deadline move. Myers didn’t hit well, and there wasn’t a spot for him in the lineup now.

The former third-round pick in the draft has now played parts of 11 seasons in the big leagues with the Padres, Rays and Reds. He was hitting just .189 this season in 37 games. He had three homers and 12 RBI.
For his career, he's .252 hitter with 156 homers.
The Reds will now have seven days to trade him, release him or outright him to the minors. It's almost certain that he'll become a free agent and be free to sign with any team he wants.
Given his experience and defensive versatility in the outfield and at first base, it's easy to see a team taking a flier on him.
The Reds enter play on Monday in first place in the National League Central at 38-35. They will take on the Colorado Rockies at 7:10 p.m. ET. Ben Lively pitches for the Cincinnati.
