In this story:

When first baseman Joey Votto belted a solo home run to right on Monday night, he did more than just extend the Cincinnati Reds' lead over the Miami Marlins.

A 91-year-old woman was in the stands for her first-ever Reds game, and the local TV broadcast cut to her following Votto's homer. She was holding a sign that read "91 years young...MY FIRST GAME Here for #19."

No. 19, of course, is Votto, who has been in Cincinnati since 2007. The 39-year-old six-time All-Star has now hit 355 career home runs, and his biggest elderly fan was there to see the most recent one clear the fence in-person.

Votto's solo shot came immediately after designated hitter Christian Encarnacion-Strand hit one of his own, giving the Reds back-to-back home runs.

Votto is hitting just .203 this year, but he has 13 home runs, 31 RBI, an .833 OPS and a 0.2 WAR. He missed the first few months of the 2023 season due to shoulder surgery, returning to a rookie-filled lineup that has the Reds on the brink of contention.

Cincinnati, which has not made the playoffs in a full season since 2013, is on pace for its best record in a decade. A six-game losing streak to open up August dinged the Reds' postseason hopes, but FanGraphs still gives them a 21.5% chance of advancing to October.

The Reds went on to beat the Marlins 5-2, giving them a much-needed bounce-back victory. Cincinnati can clinch the series with another win on Tuesday.

First pitch for Tuesday's game is scheduled for 6:40 p.m. ET.

It remains to be seen if Votto's good luck charm will be back for round two, or if she plans to wait another lifetime before returning to Great American Ball Park.
