ESPN MLB Insider Gives Hope to San Diego Padres Fans

As the San Diego Padres get set to welcome in the Boston Red Sox to Petco Park this weekend, ESPN MLB Insider Buster Olney believes we'll see a different Padres team.

San Diego is one of the biggest disappointments in baseball right now. Despite having a star-studded roster with Juan Soto, Xander Bogaerts, Manny Machado, Blake Snell, Yu Darvish and others, the Padres are 20-24 and in fourth place in the National League West.

But Olney is still a believer, recently telling the 'Brady Farkas Show' the following:

"They were so fractured in how they've been playing that Bob Melvin, their manager, called a team meeting before Wednesday's game and the Padres players essentially said 'we've got to stop talking about getting better and we have to start playing better.' So I think you'll see a sense of urgency which is what Bob was looking for when he went into that meeting."

We will see if the famed "team meeting" makes a difference for San Diego. They'll send Snell to the mound on Friday against James Paxton of the Red Sox, who is making his second start of the season.

This will kick off a nine-game road trip for Boston through San Diego, Anaheim and Arizona.

The Sox have won two straight after having lost four straight, so they bring some momentum into this one. This will be the first matchup for former Red Sox star Xander Bogaerts against his former team.

He left Boston this offseason for San Diego.
