UPDATE, 3:02 p.m. ET: Jeff Passan of ESPN has the return on the trade. Neither played acquired by Kansas City was on the 40-man roster for Milwaukee.

Trade news:

Brewers receive: right-handed reliever Taylor Clarke.

Royals receive: infielder Cam Devanney and right-handed reliever Ryan Brady.

The Milwaukee Brewers and Kansas City Royals have struck a trade involving relief pitcher Taylor Clarke.

Per Robert Murray of Fansided:

The Milwaukee Brewers are acquiring right-hander Taylor Clarke in a trade with the Kansas City Royals, according to sources familiar with the deal.

As the Royals introduce new starting pitcher Seth Lugo on Thursday, this move clears up a 40-man roster spot. Presumably, Clarke is being dealt for cash considerations or a prospect that's not going to be put on the 40-man roster.

Clarke, 30, has appeared in the majors during parts of five seasons. He debuted with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2019 and actually made 15 starts that season. He made five starts during the pandemic shortened 2020 season before transitioning to nearly all relief work in 2021. He made his way to Kansas City in 2022 and pitched in 47 games that season and 58 in 2023.

Lifetime, he owns a 15-15 record and a 5.03 ERA. Given his major league experience, the Brewers likely plan to use him as a major league reliever in manager Pat Murphy's bullpen.

He was a third-round pick in the 2015 draft by the Diamondbacks.

He's under contract through the 2025 season so the Brewers will have two years of team control remaining.

Milwaukee finished first in the National League Central this past season but was beaten by the Diamondbacks in the wild card round of the playoffs.

As for Kansas City, they finished last in the American League Central, owning the second-worst record in baseball.
