MLB Insider Pokes Fun at Recent Blunder When Describing Yoshinobu Yamamoto's Free Agency

While discussing the New York Yankees' upcoming meeting with Yoshinobu Yamamoto, MLB Network's Jon Morosi made a joke about his recent Shohei Ohtani reporting error.

MLB Network insider Jon Morosi found himself in hot water last week when he incorrectly reported that Shohei Ohtani was en route to Toronto.

A day later, Ohtani announced he would be signing with the Los Angeles Dodgers, rather than the Toronto Blue Jays, right after Morosi publicly apologized for his initial report. Morosi largely stayed off social media over the next few days.

Morosi was on MLB Network on Monday, though, breaking down Yoshinobu Yamamoto's free agent market and the status of the New York Yankees' interest in the Japanese pitcher.

Amid his report, Morosi took a pretty clear jab at his recent blunder.

"The Giants, we know, have great interest in him, the Red Sox are said to be prioritizing him as well and the Yankees are meeting with Yamamoto today," Morosi said. "I'm not sure exactly what mode of transportation the Yankees have taken to meet with Yamamoto – planes, trains, automobiles, not my area of expertise – I just do know that they are meeting today."

Morosi is an industry veteran, and he has been an on-air personality at MLB Network since 2016. He previously spent time as a columnist, beat reporter and national baseball writer with Fox Sports and the Detroit Free Press, among other outlets.

The mistake Morosi made Friday drew plenty of attention, none of which he has shied away from. After taking responsibility for spreading misinformation, Morosi appears happy to mock himself, as seen in his latest MLB Network segment.

As for Yamamoto, his free agency is bound to heat up with Ohtani off the board. The pair of Japanese superstars were arguably the two most valuable players on the open market this winter, and they could wind up getting $1 billion in guaranteed money between the two of them.

Morosi, given his noted passion for international baseball, could ultimately be the one to break the news on Yamamoto's eventual destination, which was not the case with his reporting on Ohtani.
