MLBPA Could Look to File a Grievance Against the Minnesota Twins After Executive's Comments on Radio

In this story:
Minnesota Twins' executive chair Joe Pohlad could be in some hot water after comments he made during a Minneapolis radio interview.
Speaking about the rest of the team's offseason plans, Pohlad essentially said that the organization wouldn't be players for any of the marquee remaining free agents, something that has drawn the ire of the MLB Players' Association. The union is considering filing a formal grievance, though it hasn't yet.
Per the New York Post:
A comment that Pohlad made during an interview with WCCO-AM Radio’s Jason DeRusha could be the basis for an MLB Players Association formal complaint that Pohlad “violated a reservation of rights clause with the use of media in the collective bargaining agreement,” according to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale.
“We’re not going to go out and spend $30 million on a player right now,” he said, per CBS Sports. “The players that are out there right now that probably a bunch of fans are talking about, we are not in the market for those players.”
Despite the fact that Pohlad didn't mention any players by name, the mere fact that he mentioned money and a lack of spending violates the CBA.
Pohlad's comments are no surprise as the Twins' offseason has been martially marred by a lack of spending. We heard back in November that the team wasn't going to increase payroll because of an unknown television revenue situation. But even though these comments just mirror the team's actions over the last several months, the players do not like to hear it directly and do not like it shared in the media.
