The New York Mets lost on a walk-off home run Wednesday against the Milwaukee Brewers, but that wasn't the only thing to happen Buck Showalter's team.

The team provided an update on social media about injured ace starter Justin Verlander, who has been on the injured list since Opening Day because of a strain to his right teres minor.

The team said that Verlander underwent follow-up imaging that showed reduced inflammation, which is good news. The team added that Verlander will continue throwing but there is still no update officially on his status for a return.

The Mets won 101 games but were bounced in the wild card round of the playoffs last year by the Padres and went out and signed Verlander to a two-year, $86.67 million contract, hoping he could help them past the Braves in the National League East -- and past the rest of the league for a World Series title.

It seems as if they'll have to wait a little longer to bring the reigning American League Cy Young winner back into the fold -- and he's not the only injury they are dealing with in the rotation. Jose Quintana is out as well. Remember the team also let Taijuan Walker go in free agency, as he signed with the Phillies.

For now, the team is going with Max Scherzer, Tylor Megill, David Peterson, Carlos Carrasco and Kodai Senga.

Verlander, 40, has won 244 career games, three Cy Young awarded and an MVP in his sure-to-be Hall of Fame career.

He went 18-4 last year for the Astros with a 1.75 ERA as they went on to beat the Phillies in the World Series.

The Mets are currently 3-4 on the season.
