New York Mets Scoreboard Operators Continue to Take Jabs at Shohei Ohtani

Los Angeles Angels superstar Shohei Ohtani broke a light at Citi Field on Saturday, and the New York Mets' scoreboard operators still aren't over it.

Los Angeles Angels designated hitter Shohei Ohtani broke a light on a video board at Citi Field on Saturday night, and the New York Mets' scoreboard operators aren't done taking jabs at him for it.

Ohtani sent a 107-mile-per-hour foul ball into a screen that was advertising Coors Light in game two of the weekend series in Queens. As he stepped up to the plate for his next at-bat that, the jumbotron read "We're sending you the bill for that, Shohei."

The scoreboard operators kept up the shenanigans Sunday, leaving Ohtani another message that said "Please don't break anything else, Shohei."

The Mets also got the last laugh Sunday, beating the Angels 3-2 on a walk-off single by left fielder Rafael Ortega.

Ohtani, meanwhile, finished 0-for-4 with two strikeouts.

The two-way superstar was unable to take the mound in any of the three games against New York, as he suffered a torn UCL on Wednesday and will not pitch again this season. He will end 2023 with a 10-5 record, 3.14 ERA, 1.061 WHIP and 11.4 strikeouts per nine innings.

Ohtani is batting .305 with 44 home runs, 92 RBI, 19 stolen bases and a 1.075 OPS, leading the AL MVP race by a wide margin with a month left in the season.

The 63-68 Angels and 60-71 Mets, despite their high payrolls, are on the outside looking in of the playoff picture. Los Angeles is 10.0 games back of an AL Wild Card spot, while the Mets are 8.5 games back in the NL.
