New York Yankees, Milwaukee Brewers Swap Minor League Pitchers in Latest Trade

Teenage right-hander Joshua Quezada is headed to the Milwaukee Brewers, while 27-year-old reliever Clayton Andrews is set to join the New York Yankees.

The New York Yankees have traded right-handed pitcher Joshua Quezada to the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for left-handed pitcher Clayton Andrews, the team announced Wednesday.

Andrews is being added to New York's 40-man roster. In order to make room for Andrews, the Yankees placed right-handed reliever Scott Effross on the 60-day injured list following his offseason back surgery.

The Brewers have yet to announced any corresponding moves on their end.

Quezada, who is 19 years old, signed with the Yankees in January 2023. He spent last season in the Dominican Summer League, going 6-0 with a 3.69 ERA, 1.165 WHIP and 9.3 strikeouts per nine innings across 46.1 innings and 11 appearances.

The righty was not ranked as one of New York's top prospects by MLB Pipeline.

As for Andrews, the Brewers selected him in the 17th round of the 2018 MLB Draft. He made his big league debut in 2023, allowing three earned runs, three home runs, and two walks in four appearances.

Andrews went 6-0 with a 2.53 ERA, 1.228 WHIP and 11.7 strikeouts per nine innings with Triple-A Nashville, though. In 122 career minor league outings, Andrews is 18-6 with a 3.14 ERA, 1.148 WHIP and 12.5 strikeouts per nine innings.

The 27-year-old lefty will compete for a spot in New York's bullpen during Spring Training, which gets underway on Thursday.
