With spring training about three weeks away, Seattle Mariners right-hander Bryce Miller has fans excited because of his new splitter.

The 25-year-old, who debuted in 2023, said he was learning the pitch this offseason. He put out a video of a fastball/split combo from a recent bullpen at Texas A&M University.

"These bullpens are getting boring. Looking forward to seeing hitters soon. FB/Split combo from Friday."

He attended college at Texas A&M and was a fourth-round pick of Seattle in 2021.

He made 25 starts last season, helping keep the Mariners in the playoff race until the final week of the season. He went 8-7 with a 4.32 ERA, striking out 119 batters in 131.1 innings.

After the trades of Marco Gonzales and Robbie Ray this offseason, he figures to have a guaranteed rotation spot alongside Logan Gilbert, George Kirby, Luis Castillo and likely Bryan Woo.

Because of that rotation, the Mariners figure to continue to be frisky in the American League playoff picture, but they don't have the firepower of the New York Yankees, Houston Astros or Texas Rangers overall. Seattle finished third in the American League West in 2023 and missed the playoffs by 1.0 game, going 88-74.

This offseason, they've traded away Eugenio Suarez, Gonzales, Ray and Jarred Kelenic, while also seeing Teoscar Hernandez leave in free agency. They have brought in Mitch Haniger, Anthony DeSclafani, Luis Urias, and Mitch Garver to serve as replacements.

The M's have been connected to both Jorge Soler and Cody Bellinger on the free agent market as well.
