In this story:

The New York Yankees lost to the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday night 7-1.

While the Yankees are still over .500 at 76-75, it's been an immensely frustrating season that will culminate in the Yankees missing the playoffs one year removed from getting to the ALCS.

Not only have the Yankees been losing this season, they've also had a propensity for getting blown out, as Katie Sharp of Stathead noted on social media:

Yankees now have 16 losses by 6 or more runs this season. That's the same number they had in the 2021-22 seasons combined.

The Yankees have dealt with several injuries to the pitching staff this year, perhaps leading to some of the lopsided marks. They've lost Carlos Rodon, Frankie Montas, Tommy Kahnle and Luis Severino for large stretches of the season, among others.

Clarke Schmidt took the loss on Tuesday by giving up four earned runs in five innings. He has an ERA of 4.65.

The Blue Jays needed the big victory to keep pace in the highly competitive American League wild card race. They are now 84-67 and remain 1.0 games up on the Rangers and Mariners for the second wild card spot in the American League.

The Yankees and Jays will play each other again on Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. ET as Kevin Gausman (TOR) battles against Michael King (NYY).

Gausman is 11-9 on the year with a 3.40 ERA while King is 4-6 with a 2.77 ERA. He's transitioning to becoming a starter.
