The Washington Nationals have locked in their coaching staff for next season, revealing their full roster of coaches Friday morning.

With manager Davey Martinez signing an extension in August, the top man in the clubhouse made some tweaks to the staff around him. Washington decided not to renew the contracts of bench coach Tim Bogar, first base coach Eric Young Jr., third base coach Gary DiSarcina and assistant hitting coach Pat Roessler back in October, leaving a few openings heading into the offseason.

Miguel Cairo has been brought on as the Nationals' bench coach, while Chris Johnson is now the team's assistant hitting coach. Ricky Guttierez, who was a run prevention coordinator in 2023, is set to serve as Washington's next third base coach.

Longtime MLB veteran Gerardo Parra will be taking over as first base coach. The Washington Post's Andrew Golden first reported that Parra would be taking an on-field position with the Nationals back on Oct. 31.

Parra was in the big leagues from 2009 to 2021, earning two Gold Glove Awards along the way. The outfielder spent two seasons with the Nationals, winning the World Series with the franchise in 2019, and he joined the team's front office after retiring in early 2022.

Johnson is also a former MLB player, playing from 2009 to 2016. He spent last year on the Chicago White Sox's coaching staff.

Pitching coach Jim Hickey and hitting coach Darnell Coles are holding onto their posts from last season, as are catching and strategy coach Henry Blanco and bullpen coach Ricky Bones.

The Nationals have finished dead last in the NL East in each of the last four seasons in the wake of their first World Series title. Martinez and General Manager Mike Rizzo have gotten a vote of confidence from ownership regardless, and the new coaching staff may just help them turn things around.
