SF 49ers Punter Goes Viral For Ceremonial First Punt at San Francisco Giants Game

The San Francisco Giants defeated the San Diego Padres on Friday afternoon at Oracle Park in walk-off fashion, but the real viral moment happened before the game when San Francisco 49ers punter Mitch Wishnowsky booted the ceremonial "First Punt" into McCovey Cove!

The San Francisco Giants defeated the San Diego Padres on Friday afternoon, 3-2, at Oracle Park. The Giants won in walk-off fashion when Thairo Estrada doubled in the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning.

The win moves the Giants to 3-5 on the year while the loss dropped San Diego to 4-6.

As exciting as the game was, the real viral moment came before the game when San Francisco 49ers punter Mitch Wishnowsky booted the ceremonial "First Punt" into McCovey Cove.

Now you may not know who Wishnowsky is, but that's OK, the 49ers don't have to punt a lot given their offensive firepower with Brock Purdy, Christian McCaffrey, George Kittle and Deebo Samuel.

Though the Giants have slumped in the early going, perhaps this win will ignite their fire. San Francisco spent a lot of money this offseason on Blake Snell, Matt Chapman, Jorge Soler, Robbie Ray and Jung Hoo-Lee, with the goal of geting back to the playoffs and competing for another World Series championship.

Furthermore, the Giants need to keep up with the free-spending Dodgers and the reigning NL Champion Arizona Diamondbacks in the loaded National League West.

The Giants and Padres will play again on Saturday night with the first pitch set for 9:05 p.m. ET. Right-hander Michael King (1-0, 6.14 ERA) will get the ball for San Diego while Keaton Winn (0-1, 5.40 ERA) will pitch for the Giants.
