Joe Rogan Gushes Over Interim UFC Champion Tom Aspinall: "He's Phenomenal"

Rogan thinks Aspinall could pave the way for future heavyweights.

UFC color commentator Joe Rogan holds Tom Aspinall in high regard.

Aspinall is the newly-minted interim UFC heavyweight champion after knocking out Sergei Pavlovich in just over a minute. The bout served as the co-main event of UFC 295, which emanated from Madison Square Garden in New York City on November 11.

The performance left many in awe, especially when you factor in Aspinall having less training time than his opponent, who was initially serving as a backup fighter for the postponed Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic fight. Aspinall also had a back injury going into the bout.

During an recent episode of "The Joe Rogan Experience," Joe Rogan had some lofty praise for Tom Aspinall.

"He's phenomenal," Rogan said. "He is, again, the next advancement in the evolution of the sport."

During this episode of the JRE podcast, Rogan had Hollywood star and WWE legend Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson on as a guest. When "The Rock" asked Rogan why he feels Aspinall is the future of MMA, Rogan had the following response:

"Well because he can do everything," Rogan said. "That guy's got elite jiu-jitsu, he's got elite takedowns, his striking is outstanding. I mean, he knocked out Sergei who is the scariest f****** striker in all of MMA, and he knocked him out in the first round. The way he did it was just picture perfect, and he did it with a f***** up back."

It'll be interesting to see how things play out for Aspinall in 2024. The interim heavyweight titleholder has expressed his belief that Jon Jones should be stripped of the UFC Heavyweight Championship.
