Joe Rogan Shares Theory On Why Conor McGregor Hasn't Made UFC Return

Rogan has an idea of the holdup with McGregor's return.

UFC color commentator Joe Rogan has weighed in on why Conor McGregor has yet to return to the Octagon.

McGregor was last seen in action back in July 2021. He competed in a trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier, which headlined UFC 264. At the end of the first round, McGregor fractured his tibia and fibula, resulting in a TKO stoppage win for Poirier.

While the UFC brass was hoping for McGregor to re-enter the USADA testing pool in time for a showdown with Michael Chandler at the end of 2023, that won’t be happening. The “Notorious” one has yet to get back in the testing pool, and many have questioned if the former two-division UFC champion will ever compete in a pro MMA bout again.

During an episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience,” Rogan expressed his belief that the leg injury is a big reason why Conor McGregor still hasn’t made the walk to the Octagon again.

“If it wasn’t for his leg snap, he’s still in the prime of his career, but that leg snap’s a real problem” Rogan said.

Rogan went on to say that it would be a rare feat if McGregor can return to form coming off such a serious injury.

“If he does, he’ll be the first,” Rogan said. “If anybody does, maybe he can do it. If anybody can do it, maybe it’s him because he snapped his leg in the prime of his career. It’s a hard one to come back from. Nobody really comes back from that one.”

He also discussed what makes the recovery process so difficult even if McGregor were to do all the right things.

“You gotta think the difference is you’re kicking and you’re taking kicks,” Rogan said. “Guys are gonna kick you in that shin for sure. They’re gonna kick you in your calf. Nerve damage, all the above, and you gotta think when that leg snaps, it snaps like that and then you got all that broken bone that’s damaging all that tissue inside of it.”

Ultimately, Rogan is pulling for “Mystic Mac” to make a triumphant return and get back to his glory days.

“I hope he comes back,” Rogan said. “It would be an amazing story and I would love to see someone actually come back from that injury.”
