UFC welterweight Matt Brown has told Conor McGregor to "come and get it b****," after "The Notorious" remarked about stealing the UFC knockout record from him.

Brown, 42, is tied with Derrick Lewis for the most knockout finishes in the UFC at 13. McGregor has eight knockouts in his UFC career, and expressed interest in holding the record himself via Twitter:

"Matt Brown, at 42 years of age, now holds the joint highest KO's inside the UFC with 13KO's. Him and "The Beast" Lewis are tied. I hold 8 KO's inside the UFC currently, at 34 years of age. I'm getting this record."

Brown appeared on the May 16 episode of the "Fighter vs. Writer" podcast, where he replied to McGregor's claims with a callout.

Despite this, Brown still doesn't believe McGregor will actually return to the octagon:

"I'd fight [McGregor] for [the record], wouldn't you? It's like f*** yeah, bro, you want the record? Come get it b****.

"I think it would be a great fight and --- I don't think [McGregor's] actually coming back, I'm pretty well convinced he's never going to fight again. I think he just likes being in the spotlight; he likes people talking about him; he likes the ego boost. That kind of stuff.

"More power to him, he don't have to fight, he's got more money than I'll probably make in my life. The chances of him actually coming back and fighting... I think are pretty slim."

McGregor was slated to fight Michael Chandler in the finale of "The Ultimate Fighter" season 31, but the matchup is precarious.

As of May 18, McGregor still hasn't reentered the USADA testing pool, which requires six months in the pool before an athlete can compete.

UFC President Dana White also admitted "I don't know," when reporters prompted him whether the McGregor Chandler matchup was actually going forward.

Whilst a fight between Brown and McGregor isn't as intriguing as Chandler, it's certainly becoming more feasible as the Chandler bout slips away.
