UFC 296 VIDEO: Josh Emmett Sleeps Bryce Mitchell With Incredible KO

Emmett and Mitchell kicked off the main card of UFC 296.

Josh Emmett snapped the first two-fight skid of his career in unbelievable fashion when he took on Bryce Mitchell at UFC 296.

Originally scheduled to take on Giga Chikadze, Emmett entered UFC 296 following a failed bid to claim the interim featherweight belt against Yair Rodriguez before he also lost a lopsided unanimous decision to the unbeaten Ilia Topuria in May.

Mitchell accepted the matchup on short notice and still closed as a favorite following his victory over Dan Ige in September, but unfortunately for “Thug Nasty” his night ended in less than two minutes when Emmett connected with a brutal right hand.

There was no doubt in anyone’s mind that the fight was over the moment Mitchell hit the canvas, but there was a brief period of concern as the 29-year-old appeared to convulse on the canvas before he regained consciousness and made it to his feet.

The violent win was a huge moment for Emmett following his last two results, and it also marked his first knockout victory since he stopped Michael Johnson and Mirsad Bektic in back-to-back fights in 2019.

The two featherweights were originally scheduled as the featured prelim for UFC 296 before being promoted to the main card to replace the welterweight bout between Ian Machado Garry and Vicente Luque.

The event’s action-packed prelims set a high bar for the main card, but Emmett provided a fantastic opening for the UFC’s final PPV of the year that will conclude with the highly-anticipated welterweight title fight between Leon Edwards and Colby Covington.
