UFC 297: Fight Gets Massive Last-Minute Change Following Weigh-ins

Weigh-in day for UFC 297 featured a little bit of drama.

One of the prelim bouts for UFC 297 has undergone a significant change just one day before the event takes place in Toronto.

Headlined by a middleweight title bout between Sean Strickland and Dricus Du Plessis, UFC 297 also features a fight for the vacant women’s bantamweight belt in the co-main event and is filled with some of the UFC’s top Canadian talent.

None of the fighters competing in the event’s title bouts had any difficulty making weight, but James Lynch reports that a women’s flyweight bout between Priscila Cachoeira and Jasmine Jasudavicius will now take place at bantamweight after Cachoeira indicated she wouldn't be able to make 125 lbs.

Cachoeira (right) has struggled to make flyweight in the past.

Jasudavicius and her team apparently had no objections to the change, and the Canadian ended up weighing in at 133 lbs. while Cachoeira hit the scale at 133.5 lbs.

“Zombie Girl” previously also failed to make the flyweight limit for a scheduled bout against Karine Silva last year, and after Cachoeira weighed in at 130 lbs. that fight was ultimately scrapped.

Jasudavicius was already a sizeable favorite to defeat the Brazilian prior to the weight class change, and it’s no surprise to see that the Canadian wasn't going to miss out on fighting in front of what should be a raucous crowd at the Scotiabank Arena.

The fans in Toronto will have plenty to cheer about all throughout UFC 297 considering it features Canadian fighters in all but three fights, one of which is the highly-anticipated headlining bout between Strickland and Du Plessis.
