UFC 300: Dustin Poirier Updates UFC Fans on Rumored Nate Diaz Fight

Poirier is one of a number of stars hoping to compete at UFC 300.

He may still end up fighting on the card, but unfortunately, it doesn't look like Dustin Poirier will welcome Nate Diaz back to the UFC at UFC 300.

The final months of 2023 saw fan anticipation for UFC 300 begin to grow considerably, and shortly before the end of the year, UFC CEO Dana White announced the first few bouts that will take place at the historic card on April 13 in Las Vegas.

There's still plenty of room to add some major names and high-profile matchups to the event, but unfortunately, Poirier recently shot down the chances of him taking on Diaz at UFC 300 when asked by a fan on social media.

Poirier’s response could also potentially mean that the 34-year-old is losing hope that he’ll compete at UFC 300 at all, but considering Diaz currently isn’t under contract with the UFC it appears more likely that particular matchup simply isn’t going to come together.

“The Diamond” last competed in July when he met Justin Gaethje in a rematch of their epic 2018 war that Poirier won via fourth-round TKO. Their second meeting headlined UFC 291 with the vacant BMF title on the line, and Gaethje avenged his previous loss when he finished Poirier with a sensational head kick in the second round.

Poirier came up short in his rematch with Gaethje.

The loss to Gaethje was a significant setback for Poirier following his win over Michael Chandler, but with the 34-year-old still sitting at #3 in the UFC lightweight rankings he could just be a win or two away from earning a third crack at the division’s title.

Finding a suitable opponent for Poirier would add some much-needed star power to UFC 300, and although the card currently lacks a main event it’s been rumored that Leon Edwards may also defend his welterweight title against Belal Muhammad in what would be the first title bout added to the card.
